Indian Premier League Introduction:
Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional association for Twenty20 cricket matches in India. The matches are played between April and May every year by franchise teams that represent Indian cities. IPL was established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the year 2007. In the past year 2016 the title sponsor of the IPL was Vivo Electronics, so the league has also been called Vivo Indian Premier League. IPL is the most participated cricket league on the globe which ranks sixth among all sports leagues. The first sporting event to be live broadcasted on YouTube is IPL.
In 2007 Zee Entertainment Enterprises provided funds for the foundation of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) which was not approved by BCCI and ICC. Moreover, BCCI was unhappy with the fact of its committee members and associated players joining ICL, so to prevent this BCCI imposed a lifetime ban on players joining the ICL and simultaneously increased the prize amount in BCCI related matches. Former cricket executive Lalit Modi was assigned the task of formation of a new Twenty20 league that can overcome ICL. In 2008, BCCI announced the launch of IPL which was based on the similar way in which National Basketball Association (NBA) of the USA and Premier League of England were founded.
To decide about the owners for the new league, an auction was held in January 2008 with the total base prices of the franchises costing about $400 million. Following this, the winning bidders were announced, accompanied by the cities in which teams would be based in. These were Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mohali, and Mumbai. So total eight teams have participated in the first IPL tournament in 2008. Finally, the franchises were all sold for a total of $723.59 million that provided significant earnings to the BCCI.

IPL Tournament Format: Indian Premier League Tournament Format
At present eight teams are taking part in IPL. Each team has to play twice with the other team, one match in the team’s own home ground and the next match in other team’s home field. As a consequence of the results of this league stage, the top four teams will then qualify for the remaining games. The top two teams from the league phase will play against each other in the first Qualifying match, with the winning team going directly to the IPL final, while the loser team is getting another chance to qualify for the IPL final by playing the second Qualifying match. When the third and fourth place teams from league phase play against each other in an eliminating round, the winner of that game has to play with the loser team from the first Qualifying match.
Thus the final IPL match will be between winning team of the second Qualifying match and the winning team of the first Qualifying match.
