Steven Peter Devereux Smith is the current captain of the Australian national cricket team. He is also the captain of Sydney Sixers and New South Wales Blues. According to the ICC Player Rankings as on December 2016, he is the top-ranked Test batsman in the world.

His father Peter Smith works with pigments and waxes. Gillian Smith is the mother of Steven Smith. Steven got his education from Menai High School, but he dropped out of the Higher School Certificate at the age of 17 to play cricket in England.
When did Steve Smith Debut in International Cricket?
Smith made his first-class debut on 24 January 2008 against Western Australia at the SCG where he scored 33 runs. His international cricket debut in a T20 match came in February 2010, when he played against Pakistan at Melbourne. In the same month, he made his one-day international debut against the West Indies at Melbourne. Smith made his Test debut in July 2010 when he played in the test match against Pakistan at Lords. In the second innings of this match, he took three wickets for 51 runs and Australia won by 150 runs.
IPL career of Steve Smith
Steven was first bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2010 IPL tournament as a replacement for Jesse Ryder. He was then bought by Pune Warriors India for IPL 2012 when he scored 39 runs off 32 balls that lead his team to victory against the Mumbai Indians. He was also declared Man of the Match.
Rajasthan Royals bought Smith for $600,000 in the auction for IPL 2014. He was given the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals in the latter half of the 2015 season that led the team to important victories.
Rising Pune Supergiants bought Smith for IPL 2016. Initially, he struggled for his form but finally scored well against Sunrisers Hyderabad with a total of 46 runs. He scored 101 runs from 54 balls against the Gujarat Lions. He scored 45 runs against the Mumbai Indians in another match of this season, after which he could not play the remaining tournament due to a wrist injury.
Smith is declared the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants for IPL 2017.
